Habitats: Lives in hot dry Deserts & dry Savannahs

Threats: This tortoise is in direct contact with an ever-growing population competing for space and food. Several ethnic groups in the Sahel eat this tortoise, and it is often captured for the pet trade.

Information: This is the third largest tortoise in the world!

Range: Along the South edge of the Sahara from Senegal through Mali, Niger, Chad, Ethiopia and Sudan.

Food: 100% Herbivorous. In the wild they rely on succulent plants for food and water.

Conservation: The African Spurred Tortoise comes from Africa , through our conservation charity the Wildlife Protection Foundation we fund the “ASGN” (Association to safeguard the giraffes of Niger) working in West Africa with local communities to protect the giraffes and their habitat.
